Bugs on the Menu
What has eight legs, beady eyes and fangs? Dinner! On March 15, the Explorers Club held its yearly dinner in New York City. Guests honored the year's top ocean researchers and explorers. They also enjoyed unusual treatsóinsects. In some cultures, this is not unusual. Bugs are crawling with nutrients. Travis Nagiewicz, 11, ate a tarantula. "It tastes like a mozzarella stick," he told TIME FOR KIDS.
Researcher Sylvia Earle told the crowd that it's important for kids to try new things. Does having a taste for adventure begin with eating bugs? Alex Chmielinski, 11, thinks so. But he has his limits. He turned down the chance to eat a cockroach on a stick. "After a scorpion and a worm?" he said. "No thanks!" So what's for dessert?
