The Pope Pays a Visit
Cheering crowds welcomed Pope Benedict XVI (that's Number 16) when he came to the U.S. He also received a birthday cake made by a White House chef.
On April 15, Benedict began a six-day visit to Washington, D.C., and New York City. The pope is the spiritual leader of 1 billion Roman Catholics. There are more than 67 million Catholics in the U.S.
Benedict planned to celebrate Mass in two stadiums. He said he hoped his visit would be a "source of hope" for the Church in the United States.
