Top 5 Most Common U.S. Birds

Every year in February, thousands of Americans take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count for four days. Last month, 42,000 people counted the number of each species of bird in their area. They saw these five birds most often.

1 Mourning dove - 23,307 sightings
2 Northern cardinal - 22,920
3 Dark-eyed junco - 20,909
4 Blue jay - 18,039
5 American goldfinch - 17,433
