A Change on Bush's Team
The election for President is settled. Now there will be changes in top government jobs. Last Tuesday, John Ashcroft resigned, or gave up, his job as U.S. attorney general. President George W. Bush chose Alberto Gonzales to take Ashcroft's place.
The attorney general is the top law-enforcement officer in the country. He or she heads the Department of Justice. It is one of many departments whose leaders are in the President's Cabinet, or group of advisers.
For Gonzales to get the job, the Senate must approve. If it does, he will be the first Hispanic to hold the position.
