Scott Peterson of Missouri watched flood waters rise three feet in only five minutes near his house. He had just enough time to fetch his family's dog. "You just grab what you can and go," said Peterson.
Powerful storms pounded the middle of the country last week. As much as 10 inches of rain fell in Missouri, Texas and Arkansas. Roads were closed. Airlines canceled hundreds of flights because of high winds. At least 13 people have died in the storms.
Nearly 300 homes and businesses were flooded in Missouri alone. At week's end, rescue workers searched for missing people. Ohio and Indiana prepared for more flooding.
