Brontosaurus's Cousin Is Found

Brazil enjoyed some dino-drama last week. At the National Museum in Rio de Janeiro, scientists introduced a model of a newly discovered dinosaur. Named Unaysaurus tolentinoi, the ancient animal was a plant eater that lived about 230 million years ago. It's the first dinosaur of its kind--prosauropod--ever discovered in Brazil. This ancestor of brontosaurus dinosaurs had a long neck and tail. It weighed only about 150 pounds and stood eight feet tall. "He's a unique dinosaur," said Luciano Leal, a biologist at the National Museum who helped discover the fossil. It took Leal and his coworkers nearly six years to clean and prepare the bones for the museum. They were found in Agua Negra, a region south-west of Rio.
