A New United Nations Report

Last week, a U.N. report strongly criticized the government of Sudan for its failure to stop deadly attacks on civilians in the nation's Darfur region. The crisis has killed untold tens of thousands of Sudanese in the past two years and forced nearly 2 million to flee their homes.

Jan Pronk, the U.N. official for Sudan, recently toured Darfur. One town he visited was Labado: "All huts have been demolished or burned down. All water wells have been destroyed. There is nothing left in Labado." Pronk says he found the same cruel destruction in every town.

The U.N. report called for 51 officials in Sudan to be put on trial for the crimes. However, it did not call the crisis a genocide, as many world leaders have.
