Women's History Month: Babe Didrikson Zaharias
At a time when women rarely competed in sports, Babe Didrikson Zaharias became one of the great athletes of the 20th century. She excelled in basketball, golf and track and field. Didrikson won two gold medals at the 1932 Olympics, in the javelin and the 800-meter hurdles. In 1946 and 1947, she won 17 straight women's amateur golf titles. She was once asked if she owed her success to luck. "Luck?" she said. "Sure. But only after long practice and only with the ability to think under pressure."
