Spotlight: Ted Kooser

Ted Kooser is passionate about poetry. He has written 10 books of it and teaches English at the University of Nebraska. As National Poet Laureate, Kooser is the official poet of the United States. In celebration of National Poetry Month, he talked to TFK Kid Reporter Emily O'Donnell. He revealed that the secret to being a good poet is reading. "You must read 100 poems for every one you write," Kooser says. "It's like anything else. If you want to play guitar, you listen to a lot of guitar music. If you want to be a better writer, you need to read."

Some of Kooser's poems are about ordinary objects like five-subject notebooks and potatoes.
