A Growing Community
Johnathan Russell, 18, proves that even big-city kids can have a green thumb. After school and during the summer, he works at the University City High School Garden in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. There, student gardeners grow fruits, vegetables and herbs. They sell their fresh fare at a weekly farmers' market and to local businesses. Students have classes in the garden too. "The garden brings a lot of people together," Johnathan told TFK. "It gives kids something good to do." That gets a big thumbs up!
