The Food Pyramid's New Look

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has beefed up the Food Guide Pyramid. The familiar triangle has been replaced by 12 guides that are online at mypyramid.gov. They aim to help people find a plan to fit their age, gender and activity level.

The USDA served up the new system last Tuesday. The changes were based on a recent report by scientists and doctors. They recommended exercise as well as a diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy foods.

Eric Bost of the USDA warns that if Americans don't change their bad habits, "our children may be the first generation that cannot look forward to a longer life span than their parents."
