A budding program brings locally grown vegetables into school cafeterias. Will fresh zucchini and broccoli bump the potato back underground? Not likely. Popular potatoes have long topped the list. In 2004, Americans ate these vegetables the most.
1. Potato: 138.5 pounds per person
2. Tomato: 87.5 pounds
3. Lettuce: 30.9 pounds
4. Corn: 27.2 pounds
5. Onion: 20.6 pounds
