Spotlight: Jeremy Gilley
British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley wants the world to give peace a chance. Working to create a day to promote global nonviolence, Gilley met with world leaders, including Kofi Annan and Tibetan religious leader the Dalai Lama. He also made a documentary movie from footage of the war-torn countries that he visited. In 2001, he convinced the United Nations to establish an official day to honor a common desire for peace. Now, every September 21 is the International Day of Peace.
"Young people can inspire adults to make the right decisions," Gilley told TFK. His new book, Peace One Day, is aimed at young readers. It tells of his journey as a filmmaker on a mission.
