A Hero After the Holocaust

People gathered in Vienna, Austria, last week to honor Simon Wiesenthal. He died at age 96, having survived the Holocaust, a terrible period during World War II. Some 12 million people, half of them Jews, were killed. Wiesenthal, who was Jewish, lost 89 family members.

After soldiers freed Wiesenthal from a prison camp in 1945, he helped to hunt down Nazi war criminals. It became his life's work. He helped bring to justice 1,100 Nazis. "When history looks back," he once said, "I want people to know the Nazis weren't able to kill millions and get away with it."
