A Noteworthy Find

Even legendary classical composers could use an eraser every now and then. A marked-up manuscript written by the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven was found by librarian Heather Carbo in the Pennsylvania library of a small religious college. "I was in a state of shock," she told the New York Times. Musicologists are calling it one of the most important finds in many years.

The 80-page manuscript is a piano version of Beethoven's "Grosse Fuge." It hadn't been seen for 115 years. The sheets of music show where Beethoven crossed off musical notes and made other changes to his masterpiece. The historic discovery will be on display at Sotheby's, an auction house in New York City, from November 16 through 19.
