A Real-life Batman
Merlin Tuttle's job drives him batty. Tuttle is the president of Bat Conservation International. He founded the Texas organization in 1982 to help protect the more than 1,100 species of bats worldwide. Tuttle became interested in bats at age 9 and began studying them at 15. "Bats are incredibly fascinating," he told TFK. "There are bats that are as cute as any puppy, and those that are as strange as any dinosaur."
