And They're Off!
Last Thursday, the Olympic torch started its 64-day trek to the Turin Winter Games in Italy. The flame will be carried by 100,000 torchbearers. It will travel 7,000 miles, through Italy and neighboring countries, including France, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia, to the Olympic village. Athenian marathon gold medalist Stefano Baldini began the torch relay in Rome. The final torchbearer, always a citizen of the host country, will light the flame at the opening ceremony of the Games on February 10.
