Alito Defends His Record
Supreme Court Justice nominee Samuel A. Alito Jr. faced four days of tough questioning last week in his confirmation hearings. If confirmed, Alito will replace retiring Justice Sandra Day O'Connor.
Senators were given a chance to ask Alito about his positions on controversial issues. Although he did not answer every question, Alito stressed his belief in the importance of the Constitution. "No person in this country is above the law, and that includes the President and that inscludes the Supreme Court," Alito told the senators.
The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on the nominee. After that, the entire Senate will vote on whether Judge Alito should be the country's next Supreme Court Justice.
