Since the first Winter Games in 1924, Germany has iced the competition. These nations have won the most Winter Olympic medals.
1. Germany* - 299 medals
2. Russia/USSR** - 271 medals
3. Norway - 261 medals
4. United States - 191 medals
5. Austria - 162 medals
*East Germany and West Germany competed separately from 1968 until 1988.
**The USSR broke up into 15 countries, including Russia, in 1991.
