A Skier Goes Out on Top
In just one minute and 56 seconds, Michaela Dorfmeister raced to gold in the downhill com-petition. The 32-year-old Austrian has won 24 World Cup titles, but this was her first Olympic gold. At the 1998 Games, she lost by less than a second. "That elusive medal kept me skiing," she says. Dorfmeister, who won a second gold in the super-G, plans to hang up her racing stripes at the end of this season.
