Top 5 Most Common U.S. Birds
Count them in! Americans reported seeing more than 33,000 northern cardinals in this year's Great Backyard Bird Count from February 17 to 20. The annual event asks bird-watchers of all ages to report the number and species of birds they see in their area. Here are the birds that were reported the most this year. 1. Northern cardinal - 33,021 birds
2. Mourning dove - 31,651 birds
3. Dark-eyed junco - 29,321 birds
4. American goldfinch - 25,870 birds
5. Downy woodpecker - 25,200 birds
