Saving Pennies, Saving Dogs
People call her the Penny Princess, but she's also a guardian angel. Alyssa Mayorga, 10, raises funds to buy bullet-proof vests for police dogs. She began collecting pennies in 2004 after hearing about one doggy detective that died on the job. So far, she has donated more than 20 vests to police stations in California, her home state. Each vest costs about $400. Alyssa wants to protect pooches across the country. "I'm going to keep on saving so that I can keep these dogs safe," she told TFK.
