Bonds Fields a Steroid Scandal

All eyes were on baseball star Barry Bonds last week after Sports Illustrated magazine reprinted parts of an upcoming book titled Game of Shadows. The book's authors claim that Bonds used steroids--illegal drugs that help athletes build muscle--for at least five seasons. The magazine's cover story has created a stir. But Bonds, 41, says he hasn't seen it. "I won't even look at it," he says.

Dealing with charges of steroid use is not new to the San Francisco Giants left fielder. Many times, even under oath, Bonds has denied knowingly using performance-enhancing drugs. Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig asked people not to jump to any conclusions about Bonds. "All of us ought to be careful," he says. "You're playing with people's lives and their reputations."
