Spotlight: Kimmie Meissner
At last year's World Figure Skating Championships, Kimmie Meissner was 15 years old and too young to compete. This year, it was a different story. Kimmie surprised everyone, including herself, by winning the gold. It is her first skating title at the senior level. "I didn't think I would win or even win a medal," Kimmie told TFK. She expected just to improve on her sixth-place finish at the Olympics in Turin, Italy, in February. Kimmie, who is from Bel Air, Maryland, impressed the judges by cleanly landing seven triple jumps. Her program was the most difficult of all of her competitors'. Kimmie hopes others will see that even young athletes can be champions. "You should find your unique style and let your personality come out whatever you do," she says.
