Spotlight: Alexandra Nechita

Ten years ago, TIME FOR KIDS introduced 10-year-old painting prodigy Alexandra Nechita to readers. Critics said Alexandra's work reminded them of the great artist Pablo Picasso. She painted with oil paints on canvases bigger than she was!

Nechita, now 20, still dreams big. She recently finished an 11-foot bronze sculpture named Let There Be Peace. The sculpture, which she began in high school, took three years to complete. It was unveiled in Singapore, in Asia. It is the first in a series of sculptures about peace--one for each continent--that she plans to build. The third-year art student at the University of California at Los Angeles is now working on the sculpture for Africa. "You have to dream of things that are far away and work toward them," she told TFK. "It may take two years. It may take 10. But it will happen, you watch."
