What a Melon!

On August 25, Rusty Sistrunk, 15, and his dad, Donnie Sistrunk Jr., cut their 252.4-pound watermelon from the vine. The mega-melon beat the state record by 50 pounds and was just 16 pounds shy of topping the world record. "We babied this thing for 147 days," says Rusty. "There were no secrets, just a lot of pampering." The duo also grabbed first and second places in Louisiana's Watermelon Festival in July.
