5 Questions for John Madden

The sportscaster and ex-coach replays football history in his book Heroes of Football

1 What inspired you to write a kids' book?

A I have five grand-children and I wanted to [do] something for them. So many kids play but they don't know the history of the game. You don't really understand anything if you don't know the history.

2 Do you think kids will understand the game better now?

A I think [kids] will understand football better if they know where it came from.

3 Before this book, you wrote a book for adults. What was different this time?

A [This book] doesn't have to be a one-day read. I wanted to make it something kids will want to keep for a long time.

4 Have you ever wondered what you would have done if you hadn't found football?

A I don't want to think about that. I found it when I was young, and have done nothing else. It gave me everything: a reason to go to school and to keep my grades up.

5 Are you ready for Sunday Night Football?

A Very much. It's all about having good games.
