What's All the Fuzz About?
The fur was flying in toy stores around the country last week. Parents were rushing to buy the latest Elmo doll for their toddlers. The furry red monster has tickled toy buyers since it stepped from Sesame Street to store shelves 10 years ago. Mattel Inc., the company that makes Tickle Me Elmo, says that sales of the new version have been monstrously good.
T.M.X. Elmo is more active than his giggly predecessors. T.M.X.--the "X" stands for "extreme"--has three tickle spots. The more you tickle him, the more he does.
Mattel hopes that a more extreme Elmo can compete with video games and other high-tech gadgets at kids' fingertips. "With today's technology, this Elmo is even more incredible," says Neil Friedman, of Mattel. Kids will be the final judge of that!
