Behold the Top Children's Poet
Lots of kids think Jack Prelutsky is a great poet. The Poetry Foundation agrees. Last Wednesday, the foundation chose Prelutsky to be the nation's first Children's Poet Laureate. The honor comes with a $25,000 cash prize. He will give advice to the foundation about children's literature.
Prelutsky, 66, has penned more than 35 books of poetry. His books have sold more than a million copies. As the official children's poet, the witty wordsmith will have the final say on umbrellaphants. This is just one of the silly subjects he writes about.
"I was delighted," Prelutsky says of his new title. "I have only a few ideas, but [Albert] Einstein only had one idea. And it was a good one." He told TFK that he hopes to help kids "dream of things that don't yet exist."
