The Top Teen Scientist
Loving science pays! NOLAN KAMITAKI, 14, won a $20,000 scholarship in the Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge last month in Washington, D.C. The Hilo, Hawaii, teen was also named Top Young Scientist of the Year. Nolan studied the effects of arsenic in local soils on schoolchildren. Exposure to high levels of the poison can be harmful. Nolan says he never dreamed of winning the national competition. "I hope kids realize that with a bit of work, you can really get far with anything," he told TFK.
