Bush Takes a Trip

President George W. Bush returned to the White House late last week after a whirlwind diplomatic tour of foreign nations. The President ended his trip in Amman, Jordan, where he met with Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to discuss Iraq's future. The meeting between Bush and al-Maliki was scheduled to last two days, but the first day of talks was canceled after al-Maliki failed to show up for the meeting.

Fighting between rival groups has recently intensified in Iraq. An important report that may give Bush some suggestions for how to proceed with the war was expected to be released on December 6. While meeting with al-Maliki, Bush said that U.S. troops will stay in Iraq "until the job is complete."

Before arriving in Jordan, Bush attended a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in Riga, Latvia. Leaders from 26 nations affirmed their pact to help each other in times of trouble. "The responsibility of this alliance is to defend our people against the threats of a new century," said the President.
