Wicked Winter Weather

Big snowstorms have left residents of Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas and Oklahoma out in the cold. The second blizzard to hit the region in one week dumped more than three feet of snow, which drifted as high as 15 feet.

At least 13 people died. Thousands were left without power. “There are probably 30,000 head [of cattle] out there that are at risk,” says Major General Mason Whitney of the Colorado National Guard. Last week, rescue crews dropped more than 900 bales of hay for the cattle.

Ranchers compared the storm to a 1997 blizzard that resulted in $30 million worth of damage.
