An Apple in Your Ear?
There's a new addition to the iFamily. Last Tuesday, Apple cofounder Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone. Apple also makes iMacs and iPods.
The iPhone is a touch-screen cell phone that combines a phone, an iPod, a computer and a video player into one handheld device. The price tag is hefty: $499 or $599.
Also, there's a bit of trouble over what to name Apple's new baby. Just one day after the iPhone debut, Cisco Systems Inc. sued Apple over use of the "iPhone" name. Cisco has owned rights to the name since 2000. Apple had been in talks with Cisco to use the name, but no decisions had been reached.
"(We're) the first company to use the iPhone name for a cell phone," says Apple's Natalie Kerris. "If Cisco wants to challenge us on it, we're very confident we will prevail." Unless there are legal hangups, the iPhone will go on sale in June.
