Left in the Dust
New images from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope show how the Eagle Nebula's Pillars of Creation-gas columns where stars are born-met their end (right). The pillars were photographed by the Hubble telescope in 1995 (far right). Scientists believe that shock waves from an exploding star, called a supernova, toppled the pillars.
