A Pollution Report

After reviewing years of research, scientists and government officials agree that global warming is "very likely, with more than 90% certainty," caused by humans. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its report last Friday.

Climate scientists have long blamed pollution for the Earth's rising temperatures. Coal, oil and other fossil fuels used to provide energy for homes and cars release harmful, heat-trapping gases into the air.

Hundreds of scientists worked on the IPCC report. Its aim is to influence lawmakers and business leaders worldwide. "We're hoping it will convince people that we really do have to make changes in how we live," says scientist Kenneth Denman. The IPCC will release three more reports on global warming this year.
