5 Questions for Bill Gates
The head of computer giant Microsoft talks about the future of technology.
- Has being a dad changed the way you think about computers? I limit the hours (my son) can use the computer. He was pretty disappointed in that. He said, "Is it going to be this way the rest of my life?"
- What is the future of television? TV will be sent over the Internet. You won't have to think about channels.
- So what's the future of textbooks? If you take the money spent on textbooks and put that into buying tablet (computer) devices for all kids, they have less to carry around. It can be more easily customized, more interactive.
- What other changes do you foresee? Microsoft has an amazing research group. They're seeing the latest in robotics (and) speech recognition. A mirror will be a digital mirror where you get advice--"Hey, you don't look good today."
- Will there be better learning through technology? Technology plays a role, but it's not (the solution for everything).
