A New Eagle Scout Soars

Walter Hart should get a merit badge for patience. Hart, 88, from Fort Myers, Florida, became an Eagle Scout in July--some 70 years after fulfilling the requirements for the Boy Scouts' highest rank. Hart joined the Scouts in 1928. He earned 23 merit badges, two more than needed to be an Eagle. During World War II, Hart's Eagle application was set aside when he joined the U.S. Navy. In 2006, he found his documents and contacted the Boy Scouts' national office. "It was meaningful to work for, then and now," he told TFK.
