Scoring a Top Prize
It was a slam dunk for Jasmine Warfield, 16, a high school basketball player from Denver, Colorado. Her essay won the national prize in the In My Shoes contest, sponsored by The Athlete's Foot. In the competition, students were asked to write about their performance goals for the school year. Jasmine wrote that she would like to "walk into the gym with confidence and walk out with humility." For her win, Jasmine scored a one-on-one coaching session with Denver Nuggets player Carmelo Anthony, who gave her tips on her game. "Shooting the baskets was fun, but the session wasn't long enough," Jasmine told TFK.
