Most Commonly Seen Birds
Bird-watchers in the United States and Canada reported seeing 11 million birds as part of the 2007 Great Backyard Bird Count. In the four-day event, people tally the number and species of birds they see in their area, and fill out online checklists. These birds were seen the most.
1. Northern cardinal 45,966 sightings
2. Dark-eyed junco 42,852
3. Mourning dove 41,755
4. Blue jay 34,655
5. Downy woodpecker 33,502
