The Iraq Study Group releases an official report to President George W. Bush and Congress. It says the situation in Iraq is "deteriorating." On December 30, Hussein is executed.

In a televised speech, Bush announces a new strategy to win the war. He commits 30,000 additional troops to the effort.

September 10, 2007
Ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker and General David Petraeus report to Congress. Petraeus outlines a plan for partial withdrawal of forces.
