Spotlight on Service

Brothers Parker and Connor Huffman, of West Linn, Oregon, are taking fund-raising to new heights. This summer, Parker, 11 (below left), will take part in an expedition to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. The climb will raise money through Nomad Charities for the completion of a 36-bed orphanage in Kibwezi, Kenya. "I'm really excited," Parker told TFK. "It's going to be fun, and I'm helping a lot of orphans."

Connor, 13, is also involved with Nomad Charities, which the boys' aunts founded six years ago. When he was 11, Connor worked in a medical clinic in Kibwezi. Now he works with Sofa Cents, a program that encourages students to donate their change to Nomad Charities. "Just a little bit can go so far," Connor told TFK. "One kid can make a difference for a whole family." In addition to raising money to build the orphanage, the boys hope to build a library in Kibwezi.
