A Bouncing Baby Rhino

It's a boy! The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden has a new arrival: a baby rhino. The calf, born at the Ohio zoo on September 13, is the first Sumatran rhino to be born in the U.S. and the first born in captivity in 112 years. "This is a real turning point," says the zoo's Dr. Terri Roth. "We are just thrilled he's joined us!" The rhino's birth is especially good news because Sumatran rhinos are nearly extinct. The calf is one of only 16 in captivity. There are 300 in the wild. Sumatran rhinos may be the smallest rhinos, but scientists expect this little guy to one day weigh a whopping 1,800 pounds!
