Sharing Is Caring
Monkeys have manners! A study released on August 25 shows that capuchin (cap-ya-shin) monkeys like to shareósometimes.
Scientists in Atlanta, Georgia, paired each of eight female capuchins with a relative, a friend or a stranger. The scientists gave the monkeys two choices. They could pick a food reward just for themselves. Or, pick a reward to share with their partner.
When paired with friends or family, the monkeys chose to share. When paired with strangers, they got greedy. "They seem to care for those they know," says researcher Frans de Waal.
