It's a Battle Of the Dolls
If a California jury has its way, Bratz dolls may have to pay Barbie millions of dollars. Last week, Mattel, the maker of Barbie, won a lawsuit against Bratz creator MGA Entertainment Inc.
Mattel claimed that MGA designer Carter Bryant got the idea for Bratz while at Mattel. "There have only been two successful fashion dolls - Barbie and Bratz - and Mr. Bryant stole one of those," said Mattel lawyer John Quinn.
The legal battle is far from over. Still to be decided: who has the right to make Bratz dolls. Both companies claim the toy is theirs. As for the dolls, they're not talking.
