Found: Rare Turtles!
A rare species of turtle thought to be extinct has been found. Five Arakan forest turtles were discovered in Myanmar, a country in Asia. One possible reason for their survival: They live in a thick bamboo forest where their only neighbors are elephants. The turtles nearly disappeared because they are a popular ingredient in some Asian food and medicine. Officials want the reptiles' area to be guarded to keep hunters away. "We must do what we can to protect the remaining population," says Colin Poole, of the Wildlife Conservation Society.
