Spotlight: Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys, 21, is hitting all the right notes. She recently scored two American Music Awards for her debut album, Songs in A Minor, and has been nominated for six Grammy Awards. Keys began writing the music for Songs when she was only 14! This week, she starts her first U.S. tour.
Keys credits her mom for her love of music, saying, "She told me I could quit anything, but I couldn't give up piano lessons." By age 9, the young musician was playing challenging classical pieces. She also graduated from high school at the top of her class. Keys admits that music helped her deal with school pressures. And how does she handle the pressures of fame? "I'm still surrounded by people I love," she says.
