A Muppet Takes Washington!
Why was Sesame Street's Elmo in Washington, D.C., last week wearing a suit and tie? He was asking members of Congress to approve more money for school music programs. The fuzzy Muppet wants to be sure that "when Elmo goes to school, there will be instruments to play."
Elmo joined Joe Lamond, the head of an international group of musical instrument makers. People who make instruments want schools to continue to buy them, but schools need money to pay for instruments and music teachers.
"Musical learning really does help prepare children to learn more in school," Lamond said.
