Spotlight: Chris Van Allsburg
Have you ever heard of a train traveling to the North Pole? Or rhinos charging through a living room? If so, then you're already a fan of Chris Van Allsburg, the author and illustrator of The Polar Express and Jumanji. "I like writing stories about strange things happening in the everyday world," says Van Allsburg. His new book, Zathura, takes readers out of this world!
In Zathura, two brothers play a game that sweeps their house into outer space. Van Allsburg based the boys on his daughters, Sophia, 11, and Anna, 7. Of course, the girls have never left Earth! The story came straight from the author's head. "If you have an active imagination," he says, "the world is a much more interesting place!"
