Top 5 Record Breaking Low Temperatures
Last Tuesday was the coldest day of the year in several parts of the U.S. In Lansing, Michigan, the temperature dipped to a teeth-chattering -18°F! It was the coldest December 3 in that city since 1869. Each of the 50 states keeps its own weather records. Here are the five lowest temperatures by state.
1. -80°F Prospect Creek, Alaska:Jan. 23, 19712. -70°F Rogers Pass, Montana:Jan. 20, 1954
3. -69°F Peter's Sink, Utah:Feb. 1, 1985
4. -66°F Riverside Ranger Station, Wyoming:Feb. 9, 1933
5. -61°F Maybell, Colorado:Feb. 1, 1985
