Bush Names His New Economic Team
With the economy still weak and unemployment high, President Bush decided to shake up his economic team last week. He named John Snow as his new choice for secretary of the treasury. Snow will replace Paul O'Neill, who was asked to resign.
Snow, a former chief of a big railroad company, will be in charge of Bush's economic policies, including proposed tax cuts.
The President also nominated William Donaldson as the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The SEC oversees stock markets, making sure companies are honest with investors. Bush also named Stephen Friedman as his chief economic advisor.
Bush hopes his new team can help put the economy on the road to recovery. "We have important work ahead to bring greater economic growth in the new year," he said. Both Snow and Donaldson must be approved by the Senate.
